The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has confirmed widespread telecom service disruptions in Abuja, blaming a critical diesel supply shortage for crippling key network infrastructure.
The outage, impacting quality of service for subscribers, is linked to actions by the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which disrupted diesel deliveries. This directly affected IHS Nigeria Limited, the power provider for numerous Airtel and MTN base stations across the capital.
In an official statement, the commission acknowledged the severe impact on user experience and outlined its crisis response. “We are collaborating with major licensees and stakeholders to resolve this urgently,” the NCC said.
The focus is on removing the diesel supply bottlenecks caused by NOGASA’s activities to restore full services.
The NCC is now facilitating direct dialogues between the affected telecom operators and other critical stakeholders. The goal is to find a swift and sustainable solution to the power supply crisis threatening telecom infrastructure.
“We recognize the importance of reliable power for optimal telecommunications services,” the commission stated, reiterating its commitment to seamless nationwide communication.
