The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics Of Nigeria (APFFLON) convened at their Ikeja secretariat for their monthly meeting on Thursday, focusing on pivotal issues concerning their industry.
Central to discussions were member relations with Nigeria Customs Service and allied agencies, ongoing projects, training initiatives, office space acquisitions, and the upcoming executive committee tenure expiration at the Murtala Mohammed Airport chapter.
The three-hour meeting chaired by President Otunba Frank Ogunojemite saw comprehensive reports from various chapters on their recent activities.
Post-meeting, Otunba Ogunojemite highlighted the association’s priorities: member and business growth, welfare enhancements, construction of a corporate headquarters, and improving the business environment.
Regarding inter-freight forwarder relations, Otunba Ogunojemite emphasized their cordiality and stressed the continuous need for training.
While commending Nigeria Customs Service for stakeholder engagement, he urged for expanded efforts. APFFLON has an ongoing training partnership with Redeemers University.
Plans for developing the association’s Airport secretariat and the healthcare initiative “APFFLON Health Plus” were also discussed. Otunba Ogunojemite expressed his commitment to member welfare and aims to engage humanitarian entities for additional support.
On a professional note, he advocated for the Federal Ministry of Finance to decentralize digital network services currently monopolized by Webb Fontaine. He argued that diversifying service providers would enhance efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and operational speed at ports.
Additionally, the meeting established a caretaker committee for the Airport chapter tasked with specific mandates over the coming weeks. Bisayo Okpara leads the committee, supported by members Olayinka Ogidan, Anselm Ekeh, and Shakir Tesleem.
