Chief Ernest Shonekan, former Head of the Interim National Government (INC), has died.

According to Ireportnews, he died in Lagos at the age of 85.

Shonekan was the chairman of the INC, which succeeded General Ibrahim Babangida’s military junta.

He ruled from August 26, 1993 to November 17, 1993, when he was deposed in a palace coup led by late General Sani Abacha, the Secretary of Defence.
