On the morning of April 20, approximately 500 workers in one of the largest oil fields in western Kazakhstan, Tengiz, did not go to work due to coronavirus concerns.
These were employees of the branch of the company Consolidated Construction Engineering & Procurement S.A.L.- Offshore living in the shift camp Sana in Tengiz, Zhylyoi district, Atyrau region in Western Kazakhstan.
“The employees of the company explained their actions by the fact that earlier in the shift camp Birlik one person was identified with a confirmed diagnosis of coronavirus, and there is a threat of infection during production activities,” the press service of the Akimat (mayor’s office) of the Atyrau region said on April 20.
Workers will be tested for coronavirus. On April 22, those who have tested negative for coronavirus will resume work while those who have tested positive will be isolated, the mayor’s office said.
