CSC M.O. Lawal’s compliance team dominates multiple seizure categories as Ogun I Command celebrates excellence.

The 2025 Annual Award Gala Night for the Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service was a celebration of exceptional performance, with Compliance Team Coordinator Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) M.O. Lawal emerging as the standout winner, claiming five major team awards.

The event, held in Idiroko, was chaired by DC Yusuf, Chairman of the Awards Committee. In his opening address, he set the tone:

“We are here to celebrate not just the winners, but the entire collective spirit of achievement…

This year, the level of performance of coordinators was truly exceptional.” He emphasized that the ceremony aimed to “set the new benchmark” for the Command.

The awards list confirmed CSC M.O. Lawal’s unit as the most prolific enforcement team of the year. His Compliance Team won in the following categories:

  • Patrol Team with Highest Number of Seizures for the Year
  • Patrol Team with Highest Value of Seizures
  • Team with Highest Seizures of Foreign Vehicles
  • Team with Highest Seizures of Rice
  • Team with Single Highest Seizures of Duty Paid Value

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, personally commended the top performer. When asked about the officer who “bagged 5 car votes,” DC Afeni stated, “He is a transparent officer, and he won. I have known him for a while, and I know his capability.”

Addressing other officers, the Comptroller urged them to aim higher: “Learn to try…

Next year, they should try. If they win, we will give them.” Looking ahead to 2026, he declared ambitious plans:

“We are already setting in motion machineries to make sure that Ogun 1 Command becomes not only an enforcement zone, but a revenue-generating zone too.”

The gala, described by DC Afeni as an initiative to help officers “balance their workload” and “unwind in a very relaxed manner,” successfully recognized outstanding contributions while motivating the entire Idiroko Customs formation towards greater achievements in the coming year.
