The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone B, mourns the tragic loss of Inspector Hamza Abdullahi Elenwo, who was fatally injured on Friday, July 12, 2024, during a stop and search operation near Achilafia along Daura-Kano Road in Jigawa State.
Inspector Hamza, born on April 15, 1985, and hailing from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, joined the Customs Service in 2013 and rose to the rank of Inspector of Customs in 2022. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
The incident unfolded when a vehicle suspected of smuggling collided with Inspector Hamza as it attempted to evade arrest.
Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries at the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina after being transferred from General Hospital Kazaure.
Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu of the Federal Operations Unit Zone B expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased and condemned the recklessness of smugglers who endanger lives to evade authorities.
He emphasized the unit’s commitment to justice and confirmed the arrest of one suspect, now in custody of the Nigeria Police Force, Gwiwa Division in Jigawa State.
Comptroller Shuaibu reaffirmed the resolve of his team to continue their relentless efforts against smuggling activities, undeterred by such tragic incidents.
