Atleast 12 shops have been destroyed by fire resulting from a suspected power surge on Saturday, Jan 16 at Ijesha area of Surulere in Lagos.

This was disclosed by Mrs. Margaret Adeseye while responding to inquiries about the incident.

According to Adeseye, a distress call was received from 1, Market Road, Ijesha Street, Surulere, at about 18:31hrs Isolo and Bolade Fire Stations were promptly detailed rescue the situation and they completely put out the inferno at the incident scene

She further explained that on arrival at the location, the fighters discovered that the 12 shops, which were attached to a residential building, had been severely burnt.

While disclosing that investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire, Mrs. Adeseye stated that no injury nor death was recorded and the fire was completely extinguished around 21:03hrs.

She urged Lagosians to remain cautious with the use of electrical gadgets and ensure qualified electrical engineers are engaged to fix faults to forestall such occurrences in future.
