India’s health ministry has said that the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has exceeded 2 million.

On Friday, nearly 60,000 new cases were reported in India, which is the worst affected country in the world after the United States and Brazil.

Experts have said the epidemic is likely to be months away from hitting its peak. However, health authorities say that the death rate relative to the size of the population is still a fraction of what has been seen in countries like the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy.

More than 3.5 million health workers embarked on a two-day strike from Friday to secure better wages and proper protective equipment. They have also criticized the country’s test rate at 16,035 per million people, which they said is far too low.
