NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan – Kazakhstan has sent a second group of servicemen of the fourth peacekeeping company sent to Lebanon to participate in the UN peacekeeping mission, the press – service of the Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan said on August 20.
“In accordance with the plan, a group of 60 peacekeepers was sent to serve as part of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon. The peculiarity of this rotation is that, for the first time in the history of a peacekeeping mission, servicemen of not only airborne assault forces, but also regional commands,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement.
It is noted that in general, the fourth Kazakh peacekeeping company includes 120 servicemen. Taking into account the epidemiological situation, in order to preserve the health of the military personnel, it was decided to send in two stages – in early and mid-August.
Upon arrival in Lebanon, Kazakh servicemen will replace their comrades from the third peacekeeping company, who have been on the mission since November 2019.
“All military personnel were carefully selected, trained and tested in accordance with the procedures and norms of the main UN documents related to peacekeeping,” the ministry added.
The peacekeepers will carry out tasks of patrolling the area, provide assistance to the civilian population, participate in the organisation of observation posts and other activities of the mission headquarters.
The Ministry of Defence said that at least 50 tasks are jointly carried out by Kazakh and Indian peacekeepers every day.
Recall that Kazakhstan’s participation in the UN Interim Force in Lebanon peacekeeping mission began in October 2018 after the signing of a memorandum on the joint deployment of Kazakh and Indian peacekeepers in Lebanon in accordance with the UN mandate.
