Kosovo’s prime minister Avdullah Hoti announced Sunday that he has tested positive for Covid-19.

“I am going to isolate myself for two weeks from today. I will carry out my duties from home”, Hoti said in a Facebook post, adding that he has no symptoms except a mild cough.

The prime minister has been in office since June after serving as first deputy prime minister and minister of finance.

Kosovo is currently seeing a peak in Covid-19 cases. It has so far recorded 8,799 cases and 249 deaths from the virus. There are 3,687 active cases and 4,863 recoveries.

In recent days, there have also been protests in the country about the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis.
