On August 16, 2019, FIFA imposed a lifetime ban on Coach Samson Siasia, former Nigerian Olympic football coach, following revelations that he had agreed to accept bribes to fix matches during an interview with an undercover reporter.
Siasia, who has previously won Olympic silver and bronze medals, was barred from all football-related activities globally.
FIFA’s Ethics Committee determined that Siasia had breached Article 11 (Bribery) of the 2009 FIFA Code of Ethics and also imposed a CHF 50,000 fine.
Siasia has consistently denied the allegations, asserting his innocence and questioning the motives behind the charges.
After appealing the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the lifetime ban was reduced to five years.
The case was part of a broader FIFA investigation into match-fixing attempts involving Wilson Raj Perumal, conducted in collaboration with various stakeholders and authorities.
