The inaugural Lagos State Food Festival began on Sunday with a new chef, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Governor, clad in a black apron, set up the symbolic outdoor kitchen and prepared stir fried rice, the official meal of the occasion, in full view of the public.
Sanwo-Olu assisted the guest chef, White Money – winner of Big Brother Naija 2021 – in delivering the Lagos delicacy made of onion, smoked fish, mixed bonga fish and crayfish granules, pepper, and seasoning.
As the Governor and White Money served the hot meal to sensory panelists who confirmed the quality of the cuisine, the audience erupted in delight.
This marked the start of the Ministry of Agriculture’s event at Victoria Island’s Justice Muri Okunola Park. The initiative, previously known as the Seafood Festival, is a yearly event hosted by the State Government to showcase local delicacies and agricultural commodities produced in Lagos for the international market.
After declaring the event open, Sanwo-Olu went around to meet with traders who had brought their wares for display.
The event featured over 300 different foods, drinks, aqua products, and agricultural commodities. On the field, there were also a variety of games for children.
The Governor encouraged the sellers to use the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) to expand their businesses, noting that one of the event’s goals was to encourage residents’ entrepreneurial spirit.
