The shortlisted entries for this year’s European Press Prize, which celebrates the highest achievements in European journalism, have been published, with the final winners set to be announced on June 11.
Since its launch in 2012, the prize is awarded annually in the categories of distinguished reporting, innovation, opinion, and investigative reporting.
This year, the shortlisted stories in the category of distinguished reporting are:
1) ‘I’ve seen death in this city, but nothing as sad as this’: how a ferry disaster exposed the corruption devastating Iraq, written by Ghaith Abdul-Ahad and published by The Guardian
2) The Bangladeshi shopkeepers who took on Sicily’s Cosa Nostra mafia, written by Ismail Einashe and published by The Sunday Times
3) The Uyghur Women Fighting China’s Surveillance State, written by Isobel Cockerell and published by Coda Story
4) “Living hurts”: Doom and Gloom on a ‘Dry Day’ in Loyev, written by Aleksey Karpeka and published by European Radio for Belarus
5) Sarajevo-Jerusalem, written by Rémy Ourdan and published by Le Monde
6) Inger’s Last Wish, written by Merete Skogrand and published by Dagbladet Magasinet
In the category of innovation, the shortlisted content is:
