Germany’s state premiers will agree on measures to further ease coronavirus restrictions in a Wednesday teleconference with chancellor Angela Merkel, two sources told the media on Monday.
They added that the German states are expected to allow all shops to reopen, probably from May 11. Smaller shops in the country have already reopened, however, with strict distancing rules. Outdoor sports for non-professionals and children are also likely to be allowed.
The premiers are also set to allow the Bundesliga football league to resume matches, probably from May 15, but without fans.
Last week, players, coaches and other staff at Bundesliga clubs were tested for Covid-19, ahead of a planned return to team training, and later, to competition.
On Friday, the German football club Cologne said in a statement that three people at the club tested positive for the coronavirus, adding that none of them displayed symptoms and that they will all spend 14 days in isolation.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany on Tuesday increased by 685 to 163,860, while the death toll rose by 139 to 6,831.
On Monday, the government allowed museums and hairdressers to reopen under strict conditions. Churches opened their doors for worshippers, and more car factories resumed their work.
