Augustine Eguavoen has resigned as interim coach of the Nigeria national team after the team was eliminated in the round of 16 of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
Eguavoen had led the three-time champions to three consecutive victories over Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau.
However, they were defeated in the knockout stages by a Tunisian team plagued by Covid.
“What happens next is that I become the Nigeria Football Federation’s interim coach and Technical Director” (NFF).
“I will return to my position and allow the NFF to make a decision on the way forward,” Eguavoen said after the game.
Eguavoen took over after Gernot Rohr was fired last month. However, before the AFCON began, the NFF named Jose Peseiro as the new permanent coach.
